Building work on the new Ivybridge Library and Community Resource Centre - The Watermark - started on Monday 23rd April 2007 on the Erme Court, Leonards Road site. New parking restrictions in the Erme Court car park were implemented on 12th April 2007 to stop the all day parking problem that has existed for so long.
The opening date for the TIC and the Library, both of which are located on the ground floor of the new building, is Monday 14th April. The 1st and 2nd floors will officially open on 21st April.
There’s a web cam set up to watch the build over the next few months. It's a bit dark under cloudy skies but better when the sun's shining. The latest picture (refreshed every 15 minutes during the working day) is shown below:
Stride Treglown, the architects of the new building, are recording all the sequential images from the web cam. Stride Treglown's web developer, Simon Kelland, has compiled a time lapse video of the build, which can be found at on Stride Treglown's web site.
Pedestrian access was created (22-Jun-2007) between Costly Street and Erme Court, where a section of the wall has now been removed. Access is now possible on foot between Costly Street and the Erme Court shops (photo below taken 28-Jun-2007).
You can compare the webcam image with panoramas of the site taken on various dates over the build period.
At the same time as the library is being built, a new retail extension is under construction at the eastern end of the Town Hall. This will be the new premises for Ivybridge Tile and Slate. An idea of the extension can be seen in Stride Treglown’s model of the site below.
